this makes me angry as hell. Many moons ago when I was going to a community college back home, I had a job working in a retirement home on the 11 to 7 shift. It enabled me to study during down time. The building was like a hub with spokes. The nursing staff and the techs sat in the central location and there were halls that ran down each spoke. Just imagine a wagon wheel and that is what it looked like. After a while I could tell which patient needed changing by the smell. It was absolutely awful. If folks are not changed and cleaned correctly and moved then they develop what is called decubitis or somethng like that. The sores opened up holes to where you could see all the way down to the bone. I would imagine that this is typical of most nursing homes. The pay is low and they do not attract decent people who would truly care about their level of care giving. What is sad is that a lot of patients are just dumped at the home and very rarely do they get involved in their care or come visit them. This story brought back a lot of memories.
