Tech vs nap time
Back in the early 90s, I started working in Information Technology. I LOVED and still do love technology of all sorts. A friend of mine who is/was a Pharmacist and I became close friends because of it. My friend and wife were co-moderating a home cleaning list (Fly Lady) that people could subscribe to. My wife (Katy) introduced us and we learned about our love of tech. She bought me that hat (seen above in the graphic) and the name Chief Propellerhead stuck. I even created a Youtube video with my wearing the hat.
As the title to this article suggests technology has become a competitor of one of the most sacred times of the day. The idea for this article was borne because one of my tech gadgets woke me up twice this afternoon. I am diabetic and so I use a gadget called a Dexcom device. It comes with a transmitter, a sensor, and a receiver. The sensor plugs into my stomach and there is a transmitter that plugs into it. Then the transmitter transmits data to my receiver which is a small device that I wear on my belt.
The sensors last approximately 7 days and the transmitter battery lasts about 90 days. At the end of 7 days, there is a 24-hour countdown in which the receiver emits this loud sound to alert you to its eventual death. This afternoon I had been asleep for about an hour when this thing started alerting me with this loud alert noise. The last time I looked at the screen it said I had 2 hours before the sensor life would expire. I figured that I would have plenty of time to take a nap and then deal with it.
