“Silence Interrupted: Tackling Residential Construction Noise Pollution”
This story is about our being trapped across from a construction zone and how it is making me crazier than I already am.
We live in a mobile home park. We moved here in 2021 because we were unable to find a place to rent. In Charleston South Carolina and in the surrounding suburbs real estate was running hot. Houses were flying off the market and you could not find a place to rent to save your life.
Katy and I have been married for 34 years and we rented for 31 years. On several occasions we tried to buy a home but our credit was not stellar so mortgage companies wanted 10k down to even consider us. So, we continued renting despite the many promises by real estate agents that they could put us into a home of our own. It just was not reality for us.
We were renting an older home in North Charleston and the owner would not renew our lease. She stated she wanted to flip the house because she could get what she wanted out of it. We frantically searched the want ads for a place to live. We must have put in 10 applications to view homes in our area. Most of the time there were applicants lined up and down the street waiting their turn to talk to the owner and submit their application and application fee which was anywhere from 50.00 to 125.00.
