Run in with the Law
This story will probably be one of the more difficult ones to tell. I am going to write about it because it was very instrumental in making me who I am today. It was one of two events that were very pivotal in my life. This is a long read as well, so get comfortable.
The year was 1981 and I was 20 years old. I graduated from Ford High School in Texas in May of 1980. I came from a middle-income military family.
The home town in the 80’s was your typical rural town. We had one Dairy Queen , grocery store and one bank. The town was predominantly white and there was only one black family that lived on the outskirts of town. I went to school with the young male of that family who was about my age, and we played basketball during our high school years.
I was raised in a very strict environment where children were seen but not heard. My adoptive father was a drill instructor in the army and my adoptive mother was of Austrian decent. That means that we had two strict authoritarian parents. Lets just say that some of the things that they used as disciplinary measures would wind you up in prison today. I am telling you about some of my childhood background to lay the groundwork for the rest of the story.
