Not Black Friday but SAD Friday.

That is what my wife said from her recliner while listening to Black Friday advertisements on TV. Had I been drinking something I would have probably spewed it on myself. Every once in a great while Katybug comes up with a funny zinger or two.

In typical American fashion the marketing wizards are dreaming up ways to separate us from our hard earned dollars. Guess what marketing gurus. Some of us post pandemic dwellers are doing good to pay living expenses vs spending those funds on Internet goodies on Amazon or wherever you like to shop. Spend spend spend is the manta

I get it. Marketers and retailers everywhere depend on capitalism and our desire for the next technology gizmo to drive online or offline shopping frenzies. I think they call it impulse spending or buying. Oh look at that shiny new iPhone 13. I must have this new Apple gizmo. Well, that is what the advertisers are telling me. As of this writing I am still paying on my iPhone 12 mini. No, I do not have an overwhelming urge to trade it in just to have the latest and greatest whiz bang gadget.

Despite popular belief going into debt for materialistic goodies does not provide lasting happiness. Sure , the thrill of having new techno toys or the latest fashion will bring about temporary pleasure. That will last until the first credit card statement show up in your inbox. That is when the honeymoon is officially over.

Perhaps what is important is the absence of a hospital stay or being sick at home due to the flu or COVID…
