Less is more

Recently I was relieved of my contract job doing remote support for Verizon Wireless. Imagine my surprise after only working for the contracting firm for only 30 days. The pandemic has caused several of the retail stores to close and therefore their need for tech support diminished. That left 18 people (me included) back on the unemployment line. Sigh….

Luckily for me, I was able to fall back on a security job. It does not pay much and there are no health insurance benefits. Well, I guess I could get insurance but then it would gobble up most of my meager pay check. How is that for a kick in the pants? You have to decide between a meager pay check or not much of a pay check and have health insurance. For now I opted for a pay check and no insurance.

My wife works as a teacher at a Charter School. We are not going to get rich on what either of us make but maybe we can survive. In retrospect maybe less is more. Sure, I would love to make more money. Money that is afforded to me by utilizing my I.T. skills and experience of 28 years. In this case less is more. Less stress is important at this stage of life. Stress kills. Well, that is what doctors like to say. Stress causes mental distress, heart attacks and stroke. Any of those conditions reduces the quality of life.

As I search for another I.T. role I am sitting here wondering if I am where I am in life for a reason…
