Have you tried looking for a job lately? If so, how do you do it? What job search engine or service do you use? How do you wade through the sea of endless job descriptions? Do you use a recruiter or recruiters to do the heavy lifting?
As an I.T. professional it is natural that I would be using an online service or multiple job boards. Indeed, GlassDoor, Dice, LinkedIN are four of the major job search portals that I use. One of the things I have noticed is that I can find most job ADS and descriptions on ALL of the job search portals that I just mentioned.
Employers are exceedingly picky when it comes to the job ADS. They prefer someone with a specific skill set but ultimately they want someone that can do everything from desktop support all the way to being a full blown network engineer. Information technology is highly specialized. Desktop support, help desk analyst, help desk manager, server analyst, application analyst, business analyst, network technician, network engineer, SAN engineer, web developer, cyber security specialist. The list goes on and on. Most I.T. folks specialize in one of these areas.
I remember back in the 80’s and 90’s when you wanted to apply for a job you had to find the job AD in the local newspaper and you would drive to the physical location and fill out an application on site. Then you would wait for the employer to contact you for an in person interview.
