In limbo still

We recently purchased a new home and for the first time in 32 years we are no longer renters. In the last two years we have had two landlords who decided to sell their homes. Recently when we learned we were moving again we were out beating the bushes for a new rental. We drove up to a house in the Park Circle area of town and there were 6 other people there waiting their turn to view the house. The home owner said that he had been there all day showing the house.

The housing market in Charleston SC is red hot and houses are going for more than the asking price. Houses do not stay on the market for long. This is partly because of the influx of new residents to our area. Big companies like Boeing, Mercedes Benz, Volvo and others have set up shop and are attracting people to this area. There are more people looking for places to live than there are houses or apartments to fill. The supply and demand is out of balance therefore the housing market is booming. Not only that but rentals are going up in price as well.

The papers have been signed and we moved all of our stuff into the new home. We were in a larger rental home before this one so we had extra furniture and things that I had to list on FB marketplace because it would not fit in our new home. I hired a moving company to come over and move the furniture and other heavy items to the new place. Myself and a friend of mine from across the street moved all of the boxes and small stuff. Needless to say, I HATE moving and I completely ran out of patience with all of that entails.

The move is complete now and we are unpacking boxes and putting things where they belong. In the midst of all of this I am still looking for a new job. I have had several interviews both on MS Teams and in person. I am waiting for a job offer from one of the big companies that moved to Ridgeville SC recently. This is taking longer than anticipated so I am going to be forced to take a lower paying job working security just to put money back in the budget.

No matter what type of job you are looking for you will find yourself playing the waiting game. I remember a time 20 years ago where you would fill out an application, talk to the hiring manager and if he or she liked you , you would get the job and start work immediately. Those days are long gone. Now, there is an onboarding process that can take up to 10 days to happen depending on the company.

So, yes, I am still in limbo. It seems as if we are always waiting on something or someone to do something so we can move forward. I am looking forward to this limbo state I am in to end once and for all.
