Crows Feet Writing Prompt

Liz Warren

I ran across a writing prompt response from Liz Warren and I loved her responses so much I figured I would give it a go.

Do you seek out new skills to learn?

Being in Information Technology I am constantly learning new tech skills. Technology seems to change from day to day at times so it keeps me on my toes. In May of last year I decided to learn how to create and maintain a podcast. That goes hand in hand with my tech background so I jumped in with both feet. I am still learning but I have two podcasts, and one of them has taken a life all of its own.

Have you found learning new skills to be more difficult as you’ve aged? If so, how have you overcome that obstacle?

Yes, I would say so. It is not that I am not capable of learning because of age but I have gotten lazy. For instance, my Comptia Network + certificate expires this year in July. I am required to study to take the exam again to keep it current. Since that certification did nothing to help me find a new IT gig what is the point? I have zero motivation to do all of that studying just to recertify.

Have you learned more or fewer new skills in the last decade compared to the rest of your life?

I would say fewer.
