On Thursday May 11th around 1 pm we started driving to Lexington West Virginia where my son would be graduating from law school at Washington & Lee college. The drive took us 7 hours. We arrived at Motel 6 Lexington around 7:45 pm and checked in to our room.

We got ready and left the motel around 8:30 am on Friday the 12th. We were about 6 minutes from Washington and Lee university. We went by McDonalds and then found a handicap parking area and rode a golf cart to where the commencement ceremonies were to happen. Katy texted Justin and told him that we had arrived.

The grounds where the graduation was to be held were very nice. The stage was in front of the Robert E Lee chapel and there is a large grassy area out front of it where all the chairs were set up. We found a seat under a tent for people that did not want to be in direct sun light. That would be us. The event started at 10 am and we all watched the graduate filing out of one of the buildings behind us and slowly walked to their chairs. They were proceeded by flag bearers and someone playing a bagpipe.

Several people spoke at the podium. The guest speaker was a the Honorable Cleo E Powell, Justice Supreme Court of Virginia. The speech that was given by Cleo E Powell was very powerful and on point. She spoke to the graduates about the importance of their chosen career as lawyers and how they were responsible for the protectors of justice in their communities where they were to serve. I was very impressed by her speech.
