Exposing the Dark Side: The ethics of Insurance and Pharmaceutical Companies

Yes, I said it, Insurance companies and Pharmaceutical companies are evil incarnate. This should resonate with some of you especially since we have spent the last several weeks watching major news outlets covering the assassination of the United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

United Healthcare is one of the largest health insurance providers in America. They have a claim denial rate of 33 %. They deny claims even though physicians are approving the needed medicine or procedures for their patients.

United Healthcare has faced significant criticism for denying claims, with reports suggesting they frequently reject medical bills, often citing reasons like missing documentation, treatments deemed “experimental,” or exceeding policy limits, which can lead to patients being responsible for large out-of-pocket costs; while the company claims to approve around 90% of claims, concerns remain regarding their denial practices, particularly regarding complex or expensive treatments.

When healthcare companies deny claims what happens? People get sicker and sometimes die. We go to the doctors office because we are sick. We do not feel well.
