Excellent article. Refreshing perspective. As a child of the 70's and 80's I had two authoritarian parents. Adoptive father was a drill instructor for 26 years and Austrian mother was a perfectionist. My sister and I could never do anything to their standards. We either did what we were told or they punished us. So, I learned really quickly what was expected and did everything I could to stay out of trouble.
