Imagine my surprise when I found out I have 20 followers. When did that happen? I love reading stories on Medium. I mostly follow technology authors since I love technology. For the most part I read articles related to Apple products. I have several iPads, MacBook Pro M1 and an iPhone 12 mini.

Just recently I upgraded my Mid 2013 MacBook Pro Intel to the new MacBook Pro M1. I have a son who is in law school and my wife told me that he needed his own laptop for school. I gifted the Intel MacBook to him and he is happy with it.

Just in case you are wondering, here are my thoughts on the new M1 MB. The laptop is blazing fast. Unfortunately I wish I had purchased a different tier product with more than 8 GB of ram. With the Intel version I would run out of ram every once in a great while. With the M1 version I keep getting “almost out of ram messages”.

After doing some research I figured out that Safari is a hog when it comes to RAM. So, I started using Chrome instead. That seems to have remedied the resource issues. I still have to be careful how many apps or tabs I have open though. Other than that I have been very pleased with it.

There is a difference in what apps run on the Intel version of MacBook versus the M1 model. Not all of the apps have been ported over to run on the M1 chip. The first problem I had with applications was trying to run the Protonmail Bridge app. I had to download the Rosetta emulator and install it.
