"Americans love guns more than their children". That statement is the perfect clickbait. That belief is also ludicrous at best. I am the father of 4 adult children.

My children were raised around guns. Why do you ask? I spent time working in law enforcement and private security. I wore a uniform and carried a weapon as part of my job. My job was to protect and serve the community I was in. Did I love my guns more than my children or your children? Absolutely not. Weapons and other gear were merely tools that I used to do my job when necessary. Stating that Americans love their guns more than their children is an insult.

I am a legal gun owner and I have guns that are in a safe if they are not very close to me. I still have guns because I chose to use them in defense of my family.

I know people in my community who are gun owners. None of us use our weapons to go hunt down children in our local schools. Guns are not violent. People are violent and they use guns to kill innocent children and adults. I hate the term gun violence but I also hate the victims of senseless mass shootings that are carried out by sick individuals. Let's just assume that our congress passes a gun control law where every American turns in their guns. Who is going to force our criminals to turn in their illegally held guns? How are Americans that are law-abiding citizens supposed to protect themselves? There are no easy answers and I agree that we as a nation need to do whatever we can to protect our most precious resource, our children.
